Vocam is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application Vocam.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide Directly

• Account Information: Email address, username, and profile information when you create an account
• Learning Progress: Your vocabulary learning progress, quiz results, and achievement data
• Feedback: Comments, reviews, and communications you send to us

Information Collected Automatically

• Camera / Image Data: Photos you take or upload for object detection and text recognition (OCR) are sent securely through our backend to Google Cloud Vision for recognition. We do not keep these images on Vocam servers after processing for the feature request.
• Audio Data: Voice recordings used for pronunciation practice are sent securely through our backend to Google Cloud Speech-to-Text for recognition. We do not keep these recordings on Vocam servers after processing for the feature request.
• Usage Data: App usage statistics, feature interactions, and performance data
• Device Information: Device model, operating system, app version, and unique device identifiers

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information to:

• Provide and maintain the language learning service
• Track your learning progress and personalize your experience
• Improve object detection, text recognition, and pronunciation features
• Analyze app usage to enhance user experience
• Send important updates and notifications
• Provide customer support

Third-Party Services

Vocam integrates with the following third-party services. Camera images and pronunciation audio are transmitted to Google for processing (they are not processed only on your device):

• Google Cloud Vision API: Object detection and text in images (OCR) — images are processed on Google's servers
• Google Cloud Translation API: Word, sentence, and on-photo text translation
• Google Cloud Speech-to-Text API: Pronunciation recognition — audio is processed on Google's servers
• Google Cloud Text-to-Speech API: Pronunciation audio generation (when used)
• Supabase: Account authentication, vocabulary/progress storage, and secure API proxying

These services have their own privacy policies governing the use of your information.

Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your personal information against unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. However, no method of transmission over the Internet or electronic storage is 100% secure.

Data Retention

We retain your information for the following periods:

• Account Data: Retained until you delete your account
• Learning Progress Data: Retained until account deletion
• Camera/Audio Data: Sent to Google for immediate feature processing; not retained on Vocam servers after the request completes
• Usage Analytics: Retained for 24 months
• Device Information: Retained for 12 months

Your Privacy Rights

You have the right to:

• Access your personal information
• Update or correct your information
• Delete your account and associated data
• Opt-out of non-essential communications
• Request data portability

Children's Privacy
